"To be conscious that you are ignorant is a great step to knowledge.
I first read this quotation when I was still in the university. This quote was posted on the wall in one of the classrooms we used for English classes. I must admit, I memorized it there and then.
For a while, I tried to figure out what Desraeli meant with his quote and I eventually came out with this.
Every person is different. Each has his own strengths and weaknesses. But how many will admit of their weaknesses? Not all. Call it self-denial. Sometimes, we pretend knowing this and that when in fact we don't.
Admit it or not, we sometimes say "yes" for something we don't know at all. It is because we don't want to be embarassed or to embarass. The result? We end up not knowing at all.
Why don't we just admit that we aren't all-knowing being? Since I read this quotation, I have never been afraid to ask or to take the initiative to learn something that I don't know. Afterall, to be conscious that I am ignorant is a great step to more knowledge.
